On This Day: September 10th
2011: Paul McCloskey survived a first round knockdown, and a torrid first few rounds against Breidis Prescott before coming on strong in the second half of the fight to squeeze out a unanimous decision points (114-113 x2, 115-113) win at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. The victory was a WBA light welterweight title eliminator for the Dungiven man who had been beaten controversially by Amir Khan in his previous fight, and he bounced back for what was probably the best win of his career.
2011: On the undercard in the Titanic City was Carl Frampton. The Jackal knocked out Aussie Mark Quon in the fourth round to win the Commonwealth super bantamweight title. A huge right in the fourth led to a showreel knockdown for Frampton and while Quon beat the count, the bout was waved off seconds later.
