1982: Larne’s Roy Webb secured Commonwealth silver at the Games in Brisbane, Australia, outpointing home fighter Richard Reilly in the semi finals. Webb had stormed into the semis with a stunning knockout win over another Antipodean, New Zealand’s Peter Warren, and an outpointing of Ghanaian Christian Kpakpo. In the finals Webb was defeated by Nigerian Joe Orewa.

1951: Portadown’s Frank McCoy knocked out Mickey McLaughlin in the second round at the Ulster Hall to win the BBBoC Northern Irish title on his second attempt. McCoy himself had been stopped three years previously by Jackie Briers. The fight in Belfast would by McLaughlin’s final bout, and he would retire afterwards with a 5(4)-15(9) record.
