2001: Belfast’s Eamonn Magee overcame awkward South African Matthews Zulu to defend his Commonwealth light welterweight title for a fourth time. Magee won a landslide (119:111) points decision at the MEN Arena on a bill topped by Ricky Hatton’s second round knockout of Freddie Pendleton.
2001: On the same bill in Manchester, Longford’s Michael Gomez defended his British super featherweight title for a fourth time with a second round stoppage of Scotsman Craig Docherty.

1981: In a battle of the Olympians, Commonwealth gold medalist Davy Larmour narrowly (99½-98½) outpointed Neil McLaughlin to claim the Derry boxer’s BBBoC Northern Irish bantamweight title at Paisley Park in Belfast.
