2014: Belfast slickster Dee Walsh stopped Nottingham’s Terry Maughan in the second round at the Devenish to claim the Irish light middleweight title.
1966: Belfast’s Barney Wilson forced a fifth round stoppage on Derry’s Jim Monaghan at the Ulster Hall to take the vacant BBBoC Northern Irish title.
1929: Derry legend Spider Jim Kelly knocked out Belfast’s Dicky Mack in the second round to defend his Irish flyweight title at the Guild Hall.
1898: Dundalk’s Sailor Tom Sharkey scored a big win over James J Corbett at the Lenox Athletic Club in New York. Sharkey dominated the bout before Corbett’s corner intervened in the ninth, thus seeing their man automatically disqualified on his feet. The pair had drawn over four rounds two years previously. It was the legendary Corbett’s first fight since losing his World title to Bob Fitzsimmons.
2003: Jamie Moore stopped Andrew Facey in the seventh round at the Kings Hall in Belfast to defend his British light middleweight title for a second time. Belfast super middle Brian Magee headlined the bill, stopping Hacine Cerifi in the eighth.
1967: Dubliner Young McCormack knocked out Derek Richards in the eight round to defend his British title for the first time at the Midlands Sporting Club in Birmingham.
