Date, Venue, and Channel confirmed for Anto Cacace v Martin J Ward DOUBLE domestic title fight

Anto Cacace [15(7)-0] has finally been given confirmation for his British super featherweight title challenge – and another big belt has been added to the mix.

It has been announced that the Belfast southpaw will face champion Martin J Ward [17(8)-0-2] at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday July 15th – and the vacant Commonwealth 130lbs title will also be up for grabs.

The fight, where Ward will look to retain the Lonsdale belt outright, will come on the Chris Eubank Jr v Arthur Abraham undercard which will be shown live on ITV PPV.

Andersonstown fighter Cacace, who claimed the BBBoC Celtic title with a knockout win over Ronnie Clark in 2015, has been subject to a frustrating wait to challenge for the title but will finally get his chance in five and a half weeks time.

Ward, since winning the title in September against Andy Townend, has successfully defended the belt with wins over Clark and Maxi Hughes.

The Commonwealth belt was vacated by recent world title challenger Liam Walsh and provides Cacace the opportunity to claim another desirable domestic strap.

While there was disappointment that ‘The Apache’ would not face Matchroom’s Ward on the big Sky show in Belfast this Saturday, he still stands on the cusp of a major breakthrough.

Ward is currently ranked 2nd in Europe and #15 with the WBC, with a win for Cacace looking likely to move him into the world rankings and in line for a fight with the winner of the European title clash between champion Guillaume Frenois of France and Spaniard Juli Giner, which takes place in the same night in Barcelona.
