Darragh Foley is supremely confident ahead of his WBA Oceania litghweight title clash with Brandon Ogilvie next month.
Sydney will be painted green ahead of the looming St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
To mark the event Paul Nasari’s Neutral Corner Fight Promotions have put together a stacked ten fight card – including six title fights – which will showcase some of the best boxing talent in New South Wales.
The event will be held on March 12th at Netball Central at Sydney’s Olympic Park precinct.
Three Sydney-based Irishmen will feature on the card against some of the toughest prospects in Australia.
Headlining the show will be the most exciting lightweight in the country – Australian lightweight champion Darragh Foley, who will face talented Indigenous ace and world rated lightweight Brandon Ogilvie.
The bill-topper will be sure to bring fireworks in front of a sold-out crowd coated in green and will be supported by appearances from Irishmen Paddy Murphy and Gearoid Clancy.
Foley, 27, has risen to the top of the division domestically and goes into the contest as the favourite having halted three former Australian champions en route to winning coveted national strap last November.
“Winning the Australian title means a lot to me,” said Foley about his most recent title acquisition.
“I came to this country as an immigrant with just a rucksack on my back and now I’m champion,”
Foley, who in Bondi trains with Tony Del Vecchio, has obtained a reputation as an explosive and powerful fighter.
The brash Irishman, who sees himself as the most feared lightweight in Australia, says it was refreshing to see a talented fighter like Brandon Ogilvie step up and put his title on the line.
“Brandon is a great young talent,” concluded Foley. “He has good movement, good hand speed,”
“He’s very aggressive and he comes to fight. But come March 12th it will be man against boy.”
The event will be broadcast live on Epicentre and will be replayed on Fox Sports 2 at 8PM EST on St Patrick’s Day, March 17th with commentary by Ben Damon and Kali Meehan.
