Dan McShane given comeback revenge opportunity

Dan McShane [9(3)-1(1)] will jump straight back into a big fight when he returns to the ring next month.

Just under three years on from his last contest, the Belfast boxer returns in his home city at the Europa Hotel on Saturday February 3rd – and ‘Insane’ will once again face the man who was a big factor in his extended absence.

McShane will rematch 42-year-old Hungarian journeyman Zoltan Horvath [3(2)-40(5)-1] over four rounds on MHD Promotions ‘Assassin’s Creed’ bill in under three weeks time.

In his last contest – against the same opponent back in March 2015 at the Andersonstown Leisure Centre – McShane suffered a second-round technical knockout defeat as he was forced to pull out in the second round against Horvath due to dislocating his shoulder in a clinch.

McShane had been due to rematch Horvath on a Kieran Farrell bill last April, but was forced to pull out before fight night.

At that point, the veteran Magyar has not fought in over a year, but has since returned and claimed a rare win in Italy in his most recent outing back in October

While the fight may not be important in terms of titles, it is an opportunity to banish demons for 24-year-old McShane, who is now back training with Tony Dunlop at the Belfast Kronk.

Due to a long time out of the ring, the fight is contracted at light welterweight, slightly north of McShane’s optimum fighting weight.

‘Assassin’s Creed’ is headlined by James Tennyson and also features Lucas Ballingal v Dubliner Karl Kelly, as well as Feargal McCrory, Stevie Quinn Jr, and Ronnie Clark.
