Cyclone Promotions are proud to announce the signing of Scottish Commonwealth Games gold medallist Josh Taylor. The twenty-four year old former 2012 Olympic representative Taylor will be managed by boxing legend Barry McGuigan and promoted by London based Cyclone Promotions. The Edinburgh amateur star links up with renowned coach Shane McGuigan as he enters the paid ranks and will be trained at the McGuigan Gym in Battersea, London.

Light-Welterweight prospect Taylor joins an esteemed stable at Cyclone Promotions including IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton. The 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Light Welterweight gold medallist Taylor is one of the most successful Scottish amateur boxers in history. Taylor also won Commonwealth Silver at Delhi in 2010 at Lightweight and was part of the GB Boxing squad from 2011 until earlier this year.

The former Lochend ABC boxer has also represented the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) and was previously coached by Edinburgh amateur coach Terry McCormack.

Taylor will make his professional boxing debut this Saturday in the USA at the Don Haskins Centre in El Paso, Texas on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s IBF World Super Bantamweight title defence against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. The popular Taylor will then feature in a homecoming headline show in Edinburgh later this year.

Taylor said, “I am delighted to have signed professional contracts with Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions. I feel I have achieved a great deal in the amateur ranks, the highlight being my gold medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. I have always wanted to be a professional World Champion and I know that with this team behind me I can go onto achieve that goal. To have a legend like Barry McGuigan as my manager is very important to me, he has been there and done it and proven already that he is one of the best managers on the planet. Training alongside the likes of Carl Frampton in London under Shane McGuigan has been inspirational for me. I am so excited to get my professional career up and running.”
