Cork manager warns players they are in trouble if they under estimate Home Farm

Home Farm are no Rosenberg, but the Cork City players should approach their FAI Cup clash with the non league outfit just as the would a European clash with the Norwegian Champions League regulars warns boss John Caulfield.

The reigning champions get travel to Dublin and Whitehall tomorrow and get their defence underway against a second tier Leinster Senior League side just days after they lost at home to the Norwegians in the UEFA Cup.

The manager, who won FAI Intermediate Cups while at charge at a then dominant Avondale United, admits there is a night and day element to going from UEFA Cup to the a tie away to an LSL outfit, but is adamant his players won’t be taking Home Farm’s challenge lightly.

“You go from a European tie and a full house to a non-league team waiting in the long grass who can’t believe their luck that they have the cup holders coming up,” said City manager John Caulfield.

“So you go from one extreme to another and we need to be on our game and to be prepared properly and have total focus. Obviously, we have a strong bench so certainly we will make changes, there’s no doubt about that.

“But it is a competition we’ve won for the last two years and we’ll treat it in the right way because if you go to Home Farm and you don’t prepare properly or guys think it’s going to be an easy game, then you’re in trouble.”
