Collins pushing for Ormond Vs Flanagan to take place on Lee Korobov undercard

Stephen Ormond’s WBO European title defence against British Champion Terry Flanagan is best suited for the the rumoured Andy Lee Vs Matt Korobov WBO world title fight card, says trainer Pascal Collins.

‘The Rock’ is penciled in to fight Manchester ticket seller Flanagan in London on a Monday night November 24  Boxnation broadcast charity night, but with news Lee looks set to fight Russian, Korobov in London or Dublin on December 13 Collins believes it makes sense to push the Ormond defence back.

The Celtic Warrior Gym boss claims having a second Irish fighter on the show will both boost ticket sales and Boxnation subscriptions and believes the WBO link will only help his charges WBO World title hopes.

“We will be ready for November 24 and we are looking forward to the fight, but if Andy is fighting for a World title on December 13 it would make sense for Stephen to be on the show,” Collins told Irish-boxing.com.

“It makes business sense in terms of increasing Boxnation subscriptions in Ireland and with two Irish fighters in big fights more Irish fans will be inclined to buy tickets.

“It could also help Stephen’s world title hopes. He is ranked highly in the WBO and Top Rank who look after the champ Terence Crawford will be over with Korobov and maybe we can get talks going.Plus the show will be on American TV so it will be good for Stephen’s profile. For me it makes good sense for Frank Warren and Stephen Ormond to move the Flanagan fight, but for now we are focused on November 24 and what we know will be a tough fight for Stephen.”
