Collins, Carragher, Doyle, Jenkins, Harty, Reilly Lennon, Kelly and O’Donnell all in Euro action today
Seven Team Ireland boxers are between the ropes on Day Three of the European Junior Championships in Montelsilvano, Italy today.
Jamie Collins, Callum Carragher, Calvin Doyle, Ryan Jenkins, John Harty, Cillian Reilly Lennon, James Kelly and Tadhg O’Donnell all vie for a place in the next round at their respective weights.
Light flyweight, Collins, gets a busy day started when he contests against Moldova’s Ion Peni in bout 3 of Ring A’s afternoon session.
Featherweight, Carragher is next up and faces Morina Rexhep (KOS) in bout 11 of the same session.
In the afternoon flyweight, Doyle, whose brother Christian won a European Schools medal in the summer, takes on Moldova’s Volodymyr Melenchuk in the fifth fight to take place in Ring B.
Six clashes later and lightweight, Jenkins meets Israel’s Abdallah Rahal for a place in the next round.
In Ring A’s evening session, light bantam Harty, who registered Ireland’s first win of this year’s tournament, returns to the squared circle when he boxes Moldova’s Nichita Simanschii. Reilly Lennon makes his first European Junior appearance and is in action against Croatia’s Bernard Grgic in Bout 14, at light welter.
In Ring B’s bout 8, Holly Trinity’s Kelly meets Greece’s Thomas Boditsoploulos and in bout 16, welterweight O’Donnell, who beat Scotland on day one, contests against England’s Callum Walsh.
