McMahon, currently ranked as the top super flyweight in Europe would become the first ever female Irish professional boxer to claim a major World title. The fight will headline the FS Promotions “History in The Making” card at the historic National Stadium and it will be the first time a female professional boxing world title bout is staged in Ireland. Additionally it will be the first time ever an Irish boxer will fight for a world title at the National Stadium. Since turning pro in 2010 this will be Lightning McMahon’s tenth professional fight and her third World title clash. Following two losses under dubious conditions, McMahon now has the chance to fight for, and win, a World title on home soil. However, McMahon is struggling in terms of funding her training – an issue all too familiar for Irish boxers McMahon is seeking to raise €20,000 to cover the huge financial costs of training and competing an elite boxer is the often unglamourous women’s side of sport.
