Chris Blaney to make step up on big BT Sport bill

Not only will Chris Blaney [5(3)-0] make a step up to six rounds on a massive BoxNation-BT Sport bill, he will do so against the toughest opponent of his career to date.

‘The Ginger Ninja’ boxes on the Tommy Langford v Avtandil Khurtsidze-topped bill at the Leicester Arena this coming Saturday (April 22nd) and will face Christian Hoskin Gomez [5(1)-20(2)-3] over six.

The Spanish-born Plymouth-based middleweight is known as one of the toughest journeymen on the circuit. Still only 21, and fighting exclusively as the away fighter, the Iberian has upset numerous prospects and ran many fighters close with his busy, gritty style.

A fighter with some Irish previous, Gomez held Dublin super middleweight Ciaran Mullen to a draw back in November 2015, and also outpointed Guernsey-Irishman Tom Duff over eight last year. The game scrapper’s only stoppage defeats have come to Felix Cash and Kildare-Oldham talent Mark Heffron.

It’s a definite step-up in class for Meath man Blaney as he continues his climb down to middleweight. The Navan boxer was left frustrated last time out when a string of opponent withdrawals left him facing the out-of-shape 46 year old Romanian Adrian Parlogea, whom he easily stopped in the second

Also featuring on the ‘City of Champions’ bill this weekend will be Tyrone Nurse and Joe Hughes, an English super middleweight title fight between Jahmaine Smyle and Darryll Williams, and a Midlands Area super featherweight title fight between Leon Woodstock and Paul Holt. There are also appearances from Alex Hughes, Daniel Dubois, Alexander Ustinov, Tom Stalker, Anthony Yarde, Reuben Arrowsmith, Sam Maxwell, Brad Foster, Raza Hamza, CJ Challenger, Indi Sangha, and Ekow Essuman.
