London 2012 Olympian Darren O’Neill advanced to the quarter-finals of the 39th Chemistry Cup in Halle, Germany today.
Adam Nolan also progressed to the last-eight after edging out Vasili Belous of Moldova 10-9 in a very tight welterweight contest.
But Ross Hickey is out of the tournament following a 21-9 reversal to German light-welterweight Artem Harutyunyan.
O’Neill recorded a 16-13 win over Romanian middleweight Andrei Juratoni, the Kilkenny southpaw taking an 11-6 lead into the third round.
Current European light-heavyweight champion Joe Ward completed an Irish double over Moldova with an impressive 14-5 decision Victor Cotunjanski.
O’Neill, Nolan and Ward will be back in action tomorrow along with the rest of the Irish squad.
Twenty nations (118 boxers) are taking part in the 39th Chemistry Cup.
