Chavez Jr, Peter Quillin, Jacobs and Lara all in touch with Hearn re Macklin fight

Eddie Hearn is more than confident he can secure Matthew Macklin a fourth World title shot- and if anyone doubts as much they just have to look at who has been in touch re the Irish fighter in recent weeks.

Fighter across the middleweight landscape light, middle and super middle have been in contact with Matchroom over the last number of week inquiring about the three time World challenger.

Former World champions and Andy Lee foes Julio Cesar Chavez and Peter Quillin’s interest and been most concrete while WBA middleweight champ Daniel Jacobs and 154 lb World title holder Erilandy Lara have both expressed an interest in fighting ‘Mack The Knife’.

Asked if he could secure Macklin another World title shot Hearn Said,

“I think so. Matthew Macklin is still a big name in America. In the last six weeks he has been offered a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and pretty much Peter Quillin. We discussion re a Daniel Jacobs fight and even Lara. All big fights! If he can make 154lbs comfortably it will be very interesting.”

The former Irish, British and European Champion returns to action in Marbella this week before testing the light middleweight waters for the first time since his fight of the decade with Jamie Moore back in 2006 when he fights Jason Welborn on October 17.

Macklin has stated he wants one more fight after the scheduled two before looking for a World title shot in the New Year. The ‘Tipperary Tornado’ is open to a World title at either weight providing 154 is achieved without problems next month. However, while names like Chavez Jr and Quillin are financially appealing you get the sense for once the fight anyone, anywhere, any time puncher might only accept an offer if a World title is on the line.
