Celtic Clash boosts it’s Sligo links- James Lynch to debut on stacked Belfast card

The county of Sligo can lay claim to having two active pro boxers for the first time in it’s history when James Lynch officially punches for pay in October.

The Ballinacarrow BC graduate joins talented and slick prospect Aaron Gethins on the pro circuit on the Celtic Clash 9 card and follows in the footsteps of the likes of Stephen ‘The Block’ Reynolds and Vinny ‘The Sligo Kid’ Feeney.

Keeping up with the Sligo team the Yeats County also has representation in terms of the promotion of the show, as Boxing Ireland’s Leonard Gunning also hails from the county.

Lynch trains alongside Gethins, who has impressed in his early fights, in camp Stephen Reynolds and is being trained by ‘The Block’.

Indeed, his October 12 debut will play out at the same venue as his coach’s legendary scrap with Declan Trainor, which kicked off the Celtic Clash series in style.

Lynch, who will operate at 154lbs, announced he was turning over in October of 2018. The 23-year-old initially teamed up with Tony Davitt, but has yet to punch for pay.

That will change in just over six weeks time as he joins the stacked Celtic Clash 9 card.

The debutants clash with a yet to be confirmed opponent will join a headline clash between Joe Fitzpatrick and Iago Barros for the BUI Celtic title along with a number of all-Irish fights. At lightweight, Stephen Webb takes on Martin Quinn, Aiden Metcalfe faces Kelvin McDonald at super featherweights, while Conor Cooke fights Staz Tomasevski and Sean McGlinchey fights Julio Cesar.

Also confirmed are debuts for Senan Kelly, Tony McGlynn, and Conor Doherty, along with Jamie Douglas and Aaron Gethins, while Eddie Treacy, Owen O’Neill and Sam Carroll are also slated to appear.
