“Carl is my name” – BoxNation presenter has funny slip-up in Frampton interview

It was a who’s who of Irish and Belfast boxing on Saturday night at the Waterfront Hall.

There were eight Irish boxers in the ring on the BoxNation ‘Battle of Belfast’ card, but there were literally dozens more sitting in the crowd cheering on their fellow fighters.

You couldn’t move without bumping into a top amateur or pro, including two of the biggest names in Irish boxing – Ryan Burnett, who recently won the IBF bantamweight title, and Carl Frampton, who boxes in a WBC featherweight eliminator on July 29th.

Both were interviewed live on BoxNation, although there was a bit of a mishap when ‘The Jackal’ spoke to announcer John Rawling.

As the interview concluded, Rawling said to Frampton: “Great to see you Paul, and good luck on the 29th, hope it all goes according to plan.”

Frampton managed to keep a straight face, and would respond “thanks very much. Carl is my name, John.”

Rawling’s excuse for the slip was that the previous conversation had centred around former two-weight champion Paul Weir.

Hmmm.
