Carl Frampton reveals what’s next

Carl Frampton will rematch Leo Santa Cruz before the year is out.

That is what ‘The Jackal’ himself is anticipating as he settles into life as a two-weight World champion.

Frampton grabbed the WBA featherweight crown from Santa Cruz last month in New York and is now willing to do it all again with ‘El Terremoto.’

Writing in his column for the Sunday Life, Frampton revealed that his next move is “looking more likely that it will be a re-match with Santa Cruz either in the UK or the States.”

“I’ve told my team – and everybody is on board – that I want it before the end of the year, I want to have a Christmas that I can enjoy because I haven’t been able to do that for a few years because of big fights coming up afterwards.”

While Frampton would love to fight in Belfast, the financial viability of bringing El Terremoto to the Titanic City during an Irish Winter is questionable. Indeed Frampton’s honour as a fighting man may end up trumping his desire for an immediate homecoming and he explained that “a rematch with Santa Cruz is what the fans and the television want and he was the champion and gave me my chance so I’m more than happy as the champion now to give him a shot.”
