Carl Frampton cheekily responds to Leo Santa Cruz and his father’s fear of Belfast

The boxing world has been awash today with discussion of Leo Santa Cruz‘s revelation that his father, José, does not want a Carl Frampton rubber match to take place in ‘The Jackal’s’ home town of Belfast.

More specifically, fans of Frampton have been disappointed in Santa Cruz’s assertion that, despite claiming to want to fight in Belfast, he will follow his father’s wishes.

Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] took to Twitter in response to the all the talk, and mocked Team Santa Cruz with an anecdote from his childhood.

While Santa Cruz [33(18)-1(0)-1] did not definitively say that a third fight would not take place in Belfast, the signs and sounds do not look good. However, ‘El Terremoto’s’ claim to have no say in the location of the third fight is weak, as is the reasoning of Santa Cruz Sr that they would be in danger of being on the receiving end of a robbery should they fight in the Titanic City.

Frampton won the WBA featherweight belt off the Los Angeles-based Mexican-American in New York last Summer before being defeated in Las Vegas last month. Both results were majority decisions.
