Carl Frampton opponent Andres Gutierrez dismisses weight fears
Upcoming Carl Frampton opponent Andres Gutierrez [35(25)-1(0)-1] has promised that there is nothing to fear and that he will make weight for his clash with ‘The Jackal.’
Gutierrez fights Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] this Saturday night at the SSE Odyssey Arena in Belfast in a WBC featherweight title eliminator, live on Channel 5.
The 24 year old’s ability to make the 126lbs weight limit has come under scrutiny in light of the fact that he came in a full four pounds over for his WBC Silver title fight, and sole loss, against Cristian Mijares last Summer.
This, coupled with his late arrival and the disruption of travelling to Ireland, provides grounds for a small amount of concern – however the Mexican himself has stressed that he is feeling good ahead of the biggest fight of his career.
Gutierrez, who weighed 134.25lbs at a WBC checkweight on July 11th, told his local newspaper, Noticias de Querétaro, that “I am at the ideal weight, there will be no problems of this type. I feel strong.”
“My Querétaro fans can be confident that I am going to give my all to return with victory.”
There is no belt, minor or major, on the line this weekend, however as it is an official eliminator between the WBC’s #1 (Frampton) and #8 (Gutierrez) ranked fighters, both are expected to make championship weight.
