Carl Frampton loses spot in Pound-for-Pound Top Ten
Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] has been bumped out of the pound-for-pound Top Ten following his loss at the weekend to Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas.
‘The Jackal lost’ his WBA featherweight title to ‘El Terremoto’ via majority decision on Saturday night, and the results at the MGM Grand Garden Arena have seen Frampton squeezed out of the Top Ten of the highly-regarded Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
The Belfast man had occupied tenth position, but Santa Cruz’s win has seen the Mexican-American enter at #9, while Mikey Garcia’s WBC lightweight title win over Dejan Zlaticanin sees him enter at #10. This means Frampton, and Juan Francisco Estrada, exit the list.
The weekend’s action also means changes in the featherweight ladder. Santa Cruz climbs from #5 to #1, knocking Frampton down to #2. As they are now recognised as the two best fighters in the 126lbs division, the winner of the third fight would be crowned as the new lineal champion, taking up a mantle last held by Manny Pacquiao in 2005.
