Captain Conlan – Mick named as skipper for World Championships

Michael Conlan was today confirmed as Irish Team captain for the 18th AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Doha, Qatar.
The current European Elite champion and London 2012 bronze medalist is currently in training camp with the Irish World Championships squad in Assisi, Italy.
Conlan, Brendan Irvine, Sean McComb, Dean Walsh, Adam Nolan, Michael O’Reilly and Joe Ward will represent Ireland at the AIBA World Elite Championships which begins in Doha, Qatar next Tuesday.
Olympic champion Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, Ceire Smith and Darren O’Neill are also in training camp in Assisi.
The squad will have tests matches against Italy, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Bulgaria tomorrow. The World Championships team leave Assisi for Doha on Friday.
Two hundred and sixty boxers will be targeting medals and 23 Olympic places across the ten weight classes on the Arabian peninsula.
