Byrne vs Murray on cards?

3 August 2010

An intriguing all Irish clash could be on the cards if Dean Byrne gets his wish.

The undefeated lightweight (12-0) makes his Irish pro debut at CityWest on Saturday and is already looking ahead to a clash with Irish champion and European number three ranked star Andy Murray.

The bout has the potential to make the victor a household name should it come off and Dubliner Byrne would like to see it happen sooner rather than later.

Andy Murray, get ready because Im coming to get you. Either vacate that (Irish) title while you can or get in shape quick because Im taking it off you either way, Byrne said in a press statement.

Im not over here to make up the numbers, theres a hole in the heart of boxing since (Bernard) Dunne retired and Im the man to fill that hole. Freddie Roach took me onboard because he thinks I will win a World Title, thats what Im going to do. I am home to give the fans what they want, another Irish World Champion and mark my words it will happen.

Right now Im looking at the lads my weight who are in the way right now, Andy Murray is one, Frankie Gavin is another. I hope Andy doesnt shy from this one, it would be a smashing fight but he wont be appearing on another Undefeated card once Im finished with him.

Dean takes centre stage along with Big Bang Willie Casey, Anthony Fitzgerald and John Waldron on Saturday nights card at CityWest. Tickets available at ticketgroup.ie and dolphilboxing.com.
