Busy Victor Rabei plotting Martin Quinn scrap
Three fights in quick succession could set up a domestic title clash with Martin Quinn claims Victor Rabei [4(1)-0].
The undefeated lightweight prospect got a taste of all-Irish action when producing a career-best performance against Belfast’s Mark Morris on the Last Man Standing card earlier this month and seems keen on more.
After Rabei announced himself as the best of the new breed of domestic lightweights at a press conference ahead of the TG4-broadcast card, the ever game Martin Quinn [2(1)-0] was quick to disagree from the back of the room.
The pair exchanged some tame words and all but negotiated a deal to meet for the BUI Celtic title at some point in 2018.
The Stephen O’Rourke-trained fighter remains interested in a clash with the Crumlin man and thinks it could happen four fights down the road.
“I would love to fight Martin for a Celtic title,” Rabei told Irish-Boxing.com.
“I potentially have three fights in the next eight weeks. So I’m ready to go straight after! It’s an appealing fight to me, I’ve always asked for a domestic fight.”
Before the Assassin fighter can think about trying to impress at home again the Moldovan Dub must first register his first wins away from home.
Rabei has two fights in a week abroad in April. The first in Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday 21st and the second in York Hall on Saturday 28th.
Assassin Promotions, who helped ensure Ray Moylette was the busiest Irish prospect last year, seem to have the same remit for Rabei and with three fights in the pipeline in two months the young prospect couldn’t be happier.
“I’m extremely happy to have two fights in the next four weeks! When Assassin and I sat down the first time, being very busy was my biggest demand, and I’ve got that.”
“I’m still a novice pro, so I want to get as much experience as possible out of these fights and then build on to bigger fights.”
Logistics may be the reason the Kaz Evans-run promotional outfit are bringing Rabei abroad. Placing him on two cards in Ireland in such quick succession may not prove feasible and Rabei sees these dates as a chance to get experience fighting outside of Ireland, something he stresses will benefit him further down the line.
“It’s great to get the experience of fighting abroad so early in my career. It will definitely stand to me down the line when I’ll big away fights,” he added before discussing potential opponents.
“I still haven’t spoken to Assassin about the opponents for the two fights yet. I think because the fights are only a week apart from each other the first fight will be a warm-up and then I’ll have a good six rounder after in York Hall.”
