Brett McGinty claims knockout Irish title win

Top Pro Gif Ad
Brett McGinty halted the game challenge of Dublin’s Paul Ryan in the third round of their National U-18 welterweight final last night.

Two final round standing counts following punishing barrages to the body were enough for the referee to see fit to wave the bout off.

The Donegal teen took home his eighth underage title with the stoppage win and will now set his sights on the World Youth Championships in Russia in November and an assault on the senior scene early next year.

Ryan will still be in the U18 category next year and the World Junior bronze medalist remains a huge prospect.

In the semi finals last night there were exits for reigning champions Martin John Mongan and Jason Harty at the gloves of Kevin Sheehy and Gabriel Dossen, while Terry McEntee scored his second successive stoppage.

The rest of the finals will be decided today from 1pm at the South Circular Road venue.
