Kieran Lally ensured that the Ardnaree BC were celebrating this morning with a fine win over the brave David McDonagh in the opening Boy (4) 33kg final. A thrilling contest saw Lally earn a 13-4 decision.
Young Michael Sweeney also had his hand raised in victory – much to the delight of his vociferous band of supporters – after earning an 11-7 verdict over Avona BC ace Thomas Maughan.
Monaghan’s Stephen McKenna overturned a 4-3 first round deficit to defeat Galway’s Francis Cleary in a top class 39Kg decider.  Both boxers picked off some excellent shots in this encounter, McKenna laying the platform for an 11-9 win with a particularly fine second round performance.
Jamie Conroy and Luke O’Shea produced an edge-of-the-seat third round, Conroy claiming the final frame to shade a 6-5 decision. Exciting young Derry prospect Ryan Green also emerged victorious this morning, a 17-7 verdict over Bernard Ward securing the 44Kg crown for the Oakleaf BC.
Meanwhile, the Mulhuddart club in Dublin were celebrating a remarkable double following back-to-back wins for Martin Stokes and Karl Lynch in 46Kg and 48kg finals, Stokes beating Michael Nevin and Lynch coming out on top versus Conor Bianconi.
Cork’s Patrick Doherty landed his second Irish title with a 7-5 win over Kalum McConville in a repeat of the 2011 Boy 3 final which Doherty also won.
“We’re very happy with his performance. This is his second Irish title and he was in against a good opponent this morning,” said Peter Higgins, who was working Doherty’s corner along with John O’Callaghan.
James Cleary, meanwhile, claimed the 52Kg title with a 12-2 victory over Conor Martin.  James’ grandmother sadly passed away this morning and the talented young Olympic BC stand out poignantly dedicated his win in her memory. May she rest in peace.
Tiernan Bradley and John Joyce were locked at 4-4 going into the final round of their clash before Bradley edged the final frame to emerge with a 6-5 decision. Stephen Myres suffered an unfortunate injury to his right ankle in the third round of his clash with newly crowned featherweight champion Michael McGrane and retired injured.
Craig Bonney, Daniel Keating and Lewis Crocker also finished on top of the podium, Crocket beating Limerick prospect Terry Harris and Keating collecting the 63Kg title at the expense of Martin Maughan. Bonney denied the Olympic BC a second with a 9-5 decision over Michael Delaney.
The light-middleweight and middleweight honours went to Sean Conroy and Jonathan F, Ward at the expense of Paddy Joyce and Matthew Burke, while power-punching Limerick light-heavy Cormac Long stopped the gallant Gearoid McAllister in round one.
Mikey Walsh and Gary F. Ward also have plenty of dynamite in their gloves, but ultimately it was Ward’s greater accuracy that earned him an 11-5 decision in the 86Kg final.
St Anne’s heavyweight Patryik Famulski denied Jason McCabe in the 91Kg final. Darragh Darcy lost his glove in the second round of his showdown with Chris McCloskey.
But the Tobar Pheadair  super-heavyweight didn’t lose the bout. A 40-38 countback win from Darcy was the final verdict here following a 12-12 tie.
Jason McKay claimed the Youth (1) 48Kg title with an impressive 16-7 win over Garry Kehoe this morning.
