Great to see an all-female boxing tournament in Dublin’s fair city but that’s what we hear from the go-ahead Esker BC in Lucan who are staging the 2015 Box Cup at the CBS Sports Hall in Lucan on 26th/27th September with weigh-in on 25th.
Even better, in all there will be some eighteen (yes 18) weight categories this year so an opportunity for all age groups to take part.
This year too, the event is open to International clubs so you can expect to meet an overseas opponent, perhaps one from England or France, Portugal or Spain, even further afield perhaps and an opportunity to forge new friendships too. Not that often you can come up against opponents from clubs outside Ireland so another factor to consider.
With just under a month before entries close, we understand that around 100 boxers have already registered – from clubs as far apart as Ballinamore, County Leitrim and Staffordshire in England.
The actual weight categories are: 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 42, 44, 47, 50, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 80, 85, 91 plus Kg. Juniors will have had 0-5 carded bouts experience and Seniors 6 plus bouts.
Boxing commences from 11a.m on the Saturday and Sunday.
The organisers remind us of some important information:
“We will split boxers into groups of four depending on number of bouts, weight, experience etc. and endeavour to ensure bouts for all entered boxers.
Semi-finals and finals will be the format of the competition with losing semi-finalists also receiving a tournament medal and certificate.
All entered boxers MUST have boxers record book present at the weigh in. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
Closing date for entries will be Friday 11th September. Entry per boxer is €10 payable at weigh in.
