Billy Walsh set to stay on as High Performance director?
Rumours are rife that Billy Walsh is set to sign a new contract and remain as the head of the High Performance unit.
The talk this week was that the Wexford man, who has helped mastermind recent Irish-boxing success that is nothing sort of sensational, was set to accept a deal to coach the USA Women’s Olympic Team.
Walsh had previously turned down more lucrative offers from abroad to continue working at home and was said to be upset with interference from the IABA in terms of team selection among other things.
Walsh, whose success means he is coveted the world over, hasn’t spoken publicly about leaving, nor have the IABA commented, but the Sports Council have criticised the IABA for their handling of the situation.
The public out cry has also been massive and the boxing community have reacted in shock, expressing their fears re a change at the helm.
However, rumours have been circulating late Friday that the issues have been sorted, the IABA have reacted accordingly and a new deal will be laid out over the last few days.
