Big Sexy secures strong opponent for Belfast bout
Sean Turner [9(6)-0] will make a step up both in terms of rounds and in quality of opposition next week.
The Dublin heavyweight fights on the Ginley Promotions ‘Dust Up at The Devenish’ card in West Belfast on Friday March 3rd in what will be his first eight rounder.
‘Big Sexy’ will face Kamil Sokolowski [2(0)-8(2)-2] on the show at the Devenish Complex.
The Plymouth-based Pole will be familiar to Irish fight fans, having given Tipperary’s Con Sheehan a tough eight rounds back in November. Here he won one round and took a share of another.
The muscular big man is a strong and fit fighter, and one who should pose some problems for Turner. In his most recent fight, just last weekend, Sokolowski took a round off Commonwealth title challenger Gary Cornish.
The only fighters to have stopped the 30 year old are British champion Dillian Whyte (third round) and rising Hatton star Nathan Gorman (fifth round).
Sokolowski also featured on Irish-Boxing.com’s list of the Top 10 ‘journeymen opponents’ that have fought in Ireland recently.
For Turner, the fight will grant him Irish title eligibility, presents him with a career-toughest test, and offers the chance of comparison with Sheehan.
