Big Final Innings see’s Moylette into last 32

European champion Ray Moylette maintained Ireland’s unbeaten streak in the World Chmapionships, but needed a massive final round to defeat his Latvian opponent.

The Mayo light-welterweight, who booked his Baku place with a box off victory over Irish Senior Champion Ross Hickey, was 8-7 down going into the third and final frame of his last-64 clash with Arturs Ahmetous.

However Moylette hit the target nine times in the final three minutes to register a 16-11 win and make it three wins in-a-row for Ireland in Azerbaijan.

Ahmetous was 5-4 up at the end of the first and both boxers shared the second 3-3.

Moylette, who boxes out of the St Anne’s BC, will now meet Manoj Kumar of India in the last-32 on Sunday.
