Big display from Big Tommy in British title eliminator
Tommy McCarthy made full use of his time in the spot light and took a giant step toward a British title shot with an impressive victory in Glasgow on Saturday.
McCarthy put on a show for the Sky Sport Camera beating John Lewis Dickinson, a know name, who had previously won the Lonsdale Belt out right, with relative ease.
Even more impressive the Belfast cruiser managed to put a top level domestic rival on his record in just his ninth fight.
McCarthy won the British title eliminator by a wide 97-92, 97-92, 98-91 margin.
Such was the display by the 25 year old that it will further convince Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn that he has enough potential stars to build a Belfast base with. Indeed, McCarthy could now feature high up the the proposed September Matchroom Belfast card.
The former Irish amateur heavyweight champion is set to face Matty Askin’s in a final eliminator.
