Belfast boxing projects
28 May 2010 – By Cormac Campbell
Belfast Boxing historian Barry Flynn is currently working on two major projects and is calling on the support of fight aficionados to ensure their success.
First up in August is the Legends of Belfast Boxing show which explores the rich history of pugilism in the city. This years event explores the great clubs, characters, unsung heroes and boxers who put Belfast on the World sporting map.
The event will also feature rare footage of long-gone fights adding to the sense of pure nostalgia.
Barrys focus will then shift to his Belfast Boxing Ring Exhibition project, which opens on September 6 in Belfast City Hall. The exhibition will celebrate the contribution boxing has made to the social fabric of the city and the sports ability to transcend the political divide.
The exhibition will also play host to a number of interactive events which will bring the stories to life.
