Barnes shrugs off anthem controversy
Paddy Barnes shrugged off the controversy surrounding the anthem played after he claimed Commonwealth Games boxing gold in Glasgow.
The Team Norther Ireland super flyweight said ‘that’s not my anthem’ after the opening bars to London Derry Air filled the Arena as he manned top podium position come medal ceremony time.
The line caused a stir on social media, but in typical straight talking Barnes fashion he claimed people were making a big deal out of nothing. The popular two time Olympic medal winner, however, did insist his comment had no political connotations.
So I said that’s not my anthem, so who cares, it’s not NI hasn’t got one educate yourselves, football is GSTQ so make your minds up!
