Argentinian television had a very different view on the scoring of Ward v Cacace
Anthony Cacace [15(7)-1(0)] fell to the first defeat of his career last night in London.
The Belfast super featherweight challenged Martin J Ward for the Matchroom boxer’s British title and the vacant Commonwealth belt, being edged out on a close unanimous decision following twelve cagey rounds. The scores read 115-114, 116-114, and 116-113 in favour of Ward [18(8)-0-2].
A contentious result, many disagreed with the final scorecard, arguing that workrate was given preference over quality landed shots, as well as lamenting the number of drawn rounds on the card.
The fight was shown live on ITV Box Office as part of the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr and Arthur Abraham’s IBO title fight at the Wembley Arena.
Also on the undercard, Welsh featherweight Lee Selby successfully defended his IBF title against Argentina’s former WBA champ Jonathan Victor Barros.
Because of this, the card was shown live on Argentinian channel TyC Sports.
For the Cacace fight, the South American commentators took a real liking to the Belfast boxer and had him winning the contest.
Indeed, not only did they have him winning the fight, the Argentine broadcast had Cacace winning eleven rounds to one (119-109), and only awarded Ward the eleventh round. The commentators would then burst out laughing following the announcement of the final result.
