“Any fight we have will be exciting” – Frampton promises Mexican Style on Saturday
Irish fight fans, and indeed ‘The Jackal; himself, will be hoping there is no need for a rematch – but Carl Frampton admits that he and Leo Santa Cruz might have a Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales thing going on.
The Mexican legends may not like each other, but their names will be synonymous with each other for ever after their thrilling trilogy – which was shaded by Barrera after a close decision in the third clash.
‘The Jackal’ rematches with ‘El Terremoto’ in Las Vegas this coming Saturday night, just under six months on from dethroning the three-weight world champ in New York.
The repeat of the Fight of the Year contender has got the boxing world excited and, while the WBA featherweight champion is confident of victory and the elimination of the need for a third fight, Frampton does note that there is a Barrera-Morales feel to the pair’s boxing relationship.
“Santa Cruz’s style gels with most guys because of how he fights, he tries to get on top, overwhelm and bully fighters to a certain extent, while I’m a boxer puncher who can hit pretty hard,” he told Sky Sports.
“We will have a situation where you mention one of our names and you immediately think of the other – much like Barrera and Morales.”
“It’s exactly the same with us and like them, any fight we have will be exciting.”
“This fight with Santa Cruz will be great again, it always will be however many times we fight.
