Another first-round KO for Aaron McKenna

Aaron McKenna was supposed to be given a test tonight but it didn’t turn out that way.

The 18-year-old Monaghan welterweight was in action in Los Angeles on a big TV card where he scored a first-round knockout.

For the second time in less than a month, McKenna featured on the televised portion of a Golden Boy on ESPN card.

The Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio was the venue and ‘The Silencer’ destroyed South Carolina boxer Keasen Freeman in just over two minutes.

His American foe brought a good record and decent pedigree into the bout but was no match for the Irish teenage talent. McKenna dropped Freeman early in the first followed another right hand which put his opponent down again and forced the end of the contest.

The early finish saw the Ulster fighter better the result of U.S. Olympian Gary Antuanne Russell who stopped Freeman in the second round of their contest last month in New York.

Three weeks ago McKenna had scored another first-round stoppage, obliterating Jose Palacious, and will no doubt be back training almost immediately as he quickly builds his record, with promoters Golden Boy and managers Sheer Sports looking for the Smithborough youngster to fight eight times in 2018.

Tonight’s win sees McKenna, a European Schoolboys gold and Junior silver medalist move to 3(2)-0 while the outgunned Freeman falls to 4(2)-2(2).
