Annoyed Eggington promises to punish Gavin for “personal” taunts
It will be personal for Sam Eggington when he takes on former Irish champion Frankie Gavin in a Brummie derby next month.
The welterweight pair face off in a cross-city clash on Saturday October 22nd at the Barclaycard Arena, live on Sky Sports.
It is a fight over a year in the making, following an injury-enforced postponement last October, outside the ring issues for Gavin, and something of a surprise loss to Bradley Skeete for Eggington.
In that time the bout has lost some of its luster, but it has continued to simmer and tempers have occasionally flared with ‘The Savage’ taking umbrage with some of Gavin’s comments to media.
Eggington described how “I can’t wait to get in there with him. I’m not known for talking too much because I don’t think you should trash talk, but Frankie’s said a few things about me and it’s got my back up to be honest.”
The 22 year old promised to use Gavin’s words as a motivator, and explained how “I don’t mind him having a go at the way I box, but he’s said some personal stuff about me and that’s got me annoyed, and now I am going to punch him from pillar to post.”
“There’s no reason to get personal, maybe he’s trying to do it to throw me off my game but it’s going to backfire on him.”
“If he’s going to dig me out personally in interviews then he’s going to regret it on fight night because I’m going to do a job on him.”
