Andy Lee makes massive statement on Cotto/Martinez undercard
ANDY Lee register a dramatic win worthy of Hollywood in New York last night.
The Limerick native climbed up of the canvas and produced a blockbuster knock out live on HBO in Madison Square Garden.
Lee’s coach Adam Booth said pre fight that the former Olympian would have to make a statement and he certainly did on the undercard of Miguel Cotto versus Sergio Martinez.
Opponent John Jackson made a bright start to the NABF light middleweight title fight, which was also an eliminator for the WBC belt currently held by Floyd Mayweather and dropped Lee in the first.
The former middleweight world title challenger managed to climb to his feet but Jackson got the better of the next two stanzas.
He tried to pile pressure on in the fourth and looked to be getting success until Lee caught him coming in with a massive hybrid hook-uppercut. As soon as it landed it was clear the American wasn’t recovering and Lee claimed an eye catching win and became an early knock out of the year contender.
