Andy Lee in line for comeback fight

Former WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee [33(24)-3(2)-1] will have his next fight announced in the very near future.

The Limerick southpaw has been out of action since losing to his title to Billy Joe Saunders in Manchester in December 2015. Following that defeat Lee would take some time away, but has since returned to training under Adam Booth – where he no has a new gym mate in Saunders.

The 32 year old had been in talks to appear on the Gennady Golovkin v Danny Jacobs undercard when it was initially targeted for this past December in New York. With this date falling through and the showdown now set for Madison Square Garden on St Patick’s Weekend (Saturday March 18th), it looks a distinct possibility that Lee could feature alongside Roman Gonzalez, Carlos Cuadras, and Oleksandr Usyk.

Speaking yesterday on Newstalk 106FM’s Off The Ball, Lee explained that “there’s a possibility I’ll be fighting soon. I don’t want to say anything before it’s all confirmed, but you’ll be hearing about it in the next week or two.”
