Andy Lee eyes Autumn return and set sights on Golovkin

Former WBO middleweight World champion Andy Lee wants to go straight back into World title action this Autumn.

The Limerick man lost his belt to Billy Joe Saunders in December of last year and has taken some time out since. However, the Adam Booth-trained southpaw is keen to rise again in what the American’s call ‘The Fall’.

Lee, 32, is hopeful of a post-Summer return and wants a clash with WBA ‘regular’ World champion Danny Jacobs, or a return with the current custodian of the belt he stopped Matt Korobov claim, Billy Joe Saunders.

Once he is back as a 160 lbs World champ, Lee then wants none other than Gennady Golovkin.

Speaking to ESPN Lee said “I haven’t anything in the works at the moment but I hope to return in the fall.

“I took a little time off as the last three years have been intense. Now I’m looking forward to returning to the ring refreshed. I’ve kept ticking over in the gym and when I return I’d like to fight Danny Jacobs or have a rematch with Saunders.

“My ultimate goal is to regain a title and challenge Gennady Golovkin.”
