American adventure couldn’t have come at a better time say Shane McGuigan
EVERYTHING is perfectly aligned to ensure Carl Frampton comes a star of the States, claims coach Shane McGuigan.
‘The Jackal’ has always expressed a desire to crack America and has been afforded the chance to make America and the World sit up and take note on July 18 when he defends his IBF super bantamweight title against Alejandro Gonzalez jr in El Paso Texas.
His coach McGuigan believes timing of the bout is perfect and claims PBC boss Al Haymon is the perfect man to bring the undefeated star Stateside.
“We were waiting for the right time to bring Carl over to the States and there is no better man to bring us there, than Al Halmon,” said the young trainer.
“He works with seven different TV channels, he has 200 fighters on his books and he has loads of fighters in and around our weight division. These are guys that are going to open us up to a massive audience out there and we are really excited about it,” he added,
Frampton is favoured to defeat 22 year old Gonzalez Jr, but McGuigan believes the Mexican won’t be a push over.
“He is a good fighter and he is tall for the weight at 5 foot 7 inches.
“He has 25 wins. one defeat and two draws. Gonzalez Jr is young, he can punch and it will be an exciting fight as he comes to have a go. It will be a good fight,” he added.
