Another underage standout turns professional

Another decorated Irish underage amateur has ditched the vest and turned over.

Paul Ryan revealed he was making the move into the pro ranks on Sunday and confirmed an exciting new link up.

The former Bay City and Mulhuddart amateur is relocating to America where he will look to forge a career in the sport.

Ryan was once a standout underage performer and won World Junior bronze and European Schoolboy silver in 2015 and 2013 respectively.

However, he has left the amateur set up just shy of Tokyo.

The Dubliner confirmed he has signed with Ryan Roach of Fight Locker and will work with the American moving forward.

The young prospect has also teamed up with coach Hector Bermudez, who trains the likes of Portlaoise’s former world champion TJ Doheny as well as former Patrick Hyland foe Javier Fortuna.

Speaking on social media on Sunday, Ryan explained how he is “delighted to say I’ve officially signed and turned professional with Ryan Roach of Fighter Locker and I’ll be trained by the best in game Hector Bermudez. I’ll be making the move over in the New Year and I can’t wait to start my journey. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me from the start. Special thanks to my parents, my girlfriend Alicia Kavanagh, my amateur coach Gerard McDaid who has put so much into me over the last while and my old amateur coach at Bay City.
