Scott Quigg still hopes to fight Jono Carroll

Scott Quigg {35(26)-2(0)-2] still wants to ‘lock horns’ with Jono Carroll [17(3)-1(0)-1] and hopes the fight can be rescheduled for the New Year.

The Bury native was scheduled to face the serial entertainer on the Andy Ruiz Jr versus Anthony Joshua card in Saudi Arabia on December 7.

The former world champion revealed he hoped to use the fight as a stepping stone toward a super featherweight world title shot.

However, the Freddie Roach trained fighter had to pull out through injury.

“I am extremely disappointed to announce I will not be fighting on December 7 in Saudi Arabia,” Quigg said in a statement on social media.

“My arm needs further time to rehabilitate. I’ve followed the rehabilitation programme and everything was looking great.

“I went to the specialist at the start of camp and again four weeks later, everything was looking and feeling good.

“In a sparring session last week I felt a rip in my elbow. I have a recurring injury to my left distal tendon, which is going to need four to six weeks of rest.

“Unfortunately it is going to put me back out until the new year.”

Quigg remains keen to take part in what most predict would be a entertaining battle and wants the fight to be rescheduled.

The American based English fighter believes he will be back in the New Year and is hopeful the fight can take place then.

“I’m absolutely gutted as I was ready to get back in the ring and lock horns with Jono. Hopefully this fight can be rescheduled for next year in the first quarter of the year. I’ll be ready to get back in the ring. Thanks for all the continued support.”

Irish featherweight champion Eric Donovan has put put his hat in ring and stated he would take on Carroll on the massive card.
