Serrano salutes, Braekhus says ‘see you soon’ – Future Taylor foes react to Linardatou win
‘See you soon,’ that was the message ‘First Lady’ Cecilia Braekhus sent her pound for pound rival, Katie Taylor post the Irish fighter’s victory over Christina Linardatou.
The undisputed welterweight champion became a Matchroom stable mate of the undisputed lightweight champion in the build up to the Bray fighters two weight world champion clash.
The move makes the first ever meeting of undisputed champions all the more possible and it’s certainly a clash the Norwegian has an eye on.
Braekhus watched as Taylor outpointed ‘Medusa’ by margins of 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93 to become Ireland’s third ever two weight world champ – and took to social media post the win to signal her intentions.
“Congratulations, Katie,” she wrote on Twitter. “See you soon.”
Braekhus has her own victory to secure before the clash can be made as she defends her titles against former Taylor foe Victoria Noelia Bustos and makes her Matchroom debut in Monaco on the last day of this month.
Still victory in that clash doesn’t guarantee she will fight the Irish sensation next. Eddie Hearn claims there are a host of options with regard to personal and titles for Taylor and a decision regarding her next step has yet to be made.
The fighter most believed would be next before the weekends fight, Amanda Serrano has January plans and her ‘mega fight’ with Taylor may now be left to stew further.
The seven weight world champion did take time to reflect on Taylor’s win, but refrained from calling for the fight, instead just praising both participants.

Serrano now looks likely to face Canadian puncher Jelena Mrdjenovich in January.
Other opponent front runners Jessica McCaskill and Delfine Persoon haven’t commented since the weekend. Although team McCaskill made it clear to Irish-boxing.com they want the rematch and the Belgian press seemed to delight in Linardatou’s post fight robbery claims.
