DEAL DONE – Eddie Hearn confirms Jono Carroll v Scott Quigg for Ruiz-Joshua Saudi Undercard
An agreement has been reached and Jono Carroll [17(3)-1(0)-1] will box on one of the biggest cards of the year.
The Finglas-Dunshaughlin super feather has been confirmed for the Andy Ruiz v Anthony Joshua heavyweight title rematch undercard in Saudi Arabia in December.
As has been previously mooted, ‘King Kong’ Carroll will face former Carl Frampton foe Scott Quigg [35(26)-2(0)-2] on the December 7th outdoor stadium card in Diriyah.
The fight has been in play since last month and the pair’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has revealed that a deal was made earlier this week.
Speaking ahead of the big Josh Taylor v Regis Prograis bill this weekend, the Matchroom boss told IFL TV “that [Carroll-Quigg] is a great fight, I wrapped it up last night [Tuesday].”
It’s a return to major fights for Carroll who stepped up to world title level in March – when he lost valiantly to IBF champ Tevin Farmer in Philadelphia.
The 27-year-old returned to the ring in Mexico in August, overcoming Eleazar Valenzuela and now goes into another high-profile clash.
A super bantamweight titlist, Quigg’s step up to featherweight did not run smoothly. Having relocated to Freddie Roach in California, the Bury boxer would lose to Oscar Valdez before returning with a win over Mario Briones.
That fight was a year ago this week, with a freak arm injury ruling the Englishman out of a return in April and he now goes straight up to super feather and straight in with Carroll.
In terms of the Ruiz-Joshua II undercard, Hearn confirmed that there are six match-ups made but would only reveal Carroll-Quigg and Alexander Povetkin v Michael Hunter from those.
