Irish featherweight Golden Contract duo unconcerned about today’s unique draw
Neither Davey Oliver Joyce or Tyrone McCullagh are concerned about how this afternoon’s unique Golden Contract draw plays outs.
The Irish interest in the unique tournament have been preparing themselves for a York Hall October 4th quarter final clash somewhat blindfolded.
Like the six others that will compete alongside them for a life-changing lucrative five-fight deal with a top promoter, the pair will only find who they will face this coming Friday night during today’s draw.
Mullingar’s Joyce and Derry’s McCullagh could find themselves fighting each other – although that’s unlikely considering the fact the draw allows for fighter’s choice – or British champion Ryan Walsh, Commonwealth champion Leigh Wood, EBU EU champion Carlos Ramos, Cuban trickster Hairon Socarras, IBF European ranking title holder Jazza Dickens or WBC Latino champion Carlos Araujo.
It’s an eclectic mix of operators, but the Irish duo are unconcerned with regard to which one they will face in the quarter finals.
“They’re all quality lads and there’ll be no one-sided fights in this competition. That’s what makes it so exciting. I plan on winning the whole thing so it doesn’t really matter to me who I draw first up,” McCullagh said.
“Obviously, I know Davey from the amateur days. We fought once and sparred a few times. I’ve also sparred Jazza from my time down in Liverpool. I’ve seen the other domestic lads fight over the years as well but when it comes to the foreign fighters, I don’t have a clue.”
The Peter Taylor-trained, Joyce, holds a similar view.
“I know a few of the other guys and they’re all very good. Each one of them presents a different style but I’ve been training for all of them.”
“I’m in this to go right until the end and win the final. Whoever meets me in that final, fair play to them.”
The #GoldenContract will be broadcast live in the UK by Sky Sports in association with Matchroom, in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and on iFL TV worldwide.
The draw takes place around lunch time today and can be seen on Sky Sports social channels.
