Jono Carroll to fight Scott Quigg on Ruiz Joshua Saudi card ?

 

Eddie Hearn wants to put a mouthwatering super featherweight clash between Jono Carroll {17(3)-1(0)-1] and Scott Quigg [35(26)-2(0)-2] on the under of the massive heavyweight rematch between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua.

There was Irish interest in the form of Katie Taylor – who defeated Delfine Persoon to become unified world champion- when the heavyweights meet in Madison Square Garden on the first weekend in June – and there could another exciting match up for Irish fans to look forward to in the Saudi Arabia hosted rematch.

Speaking in America ahead of a New York topped card, the Matchroom boss admitted he was considering pitting the Spain based Dub and the fighter, who was public enemy number one during his days as a Carl Frampton rival, on the massive card.

No contract has been put on the table and it seems neither fighter have been approached with regard to the match up, but Hearn likes the fight and believes it would fit on the undercard of the heavyweight rematch.

“Another fight I have been looking at, at the moment, it’s a bit of a random one, Scott Quigg versus Jono Carroll,” Hearn told IFLTV.

“It’s just one that has come to me. In terms of the dates and how everything is dropping that fight would fit perfectly in the (Suadi) date. I think the first undercard fight will be announced in two weeks time.”

Former WBA super bantamweight world champion, Quigg hasn’t fought since October of last year and it’s unknown as to whether he would be willing to step in with the bearded southpaw.

However, Carroll has called for the fight previously. The recent world title challenger, who put his March world title defeat to Tevin Farmer behind him with victory over Eleazar Valenzuela in Mexico last month, has been vocal about wanting ‘smash Quigg up’ in the past. 

Indeed, when Quigg, who is now trained by Freddie Roach, called for a fight with IBF super featherweight world champion Farmer, Carroll was quick to intervene.

“Scott Quigg would want to fight me first before he fights Tevin Farmer,” the talkative star said.

“I’ll smash Scott Quigg up. I don’t know why he thinks he can call out Tevin Farmer. Scott Quigg hasn’t even done much recently. He hasn’t beaten a name recently.”

“He is doing great training over there with Freddie Roach, probably getting great spars and that, but Farmer is way too slick for Scott Quigg,” opined Carroll

The fight would be a big one for Carroll not only having the slot on such a massive card, but in terms of being afforded the chance to add a known name to his record.
