John Joe Nevin confirms new fight date
John Joe Nevin [12(4)-0] returns to the ring in just over two weeks time.
The Olympic silver medal winner fights for the second time this year on September 20th.
The Mullingar talent will trade leather at Vale Sports Arena, Cardiff alongside the likes of Alan Hughes, Nathan Thorney and Alex Cooksey.
Nevin is expecting to compete in a 10 round contest with a fighter ‘there to shake your feathers’.
It’s a small hall appearance against a yet to be confirmed opponent for a fighter that was only denied London 2012 gold by Luke Campbell.
It’s the opposite end of the pro scale to his former amateur rival, who last weekend was beaten by potential all time great Vasyl Lomachenko on top of a Matchroom and Sky Sports PPV card.
Nevin, who some argue is Ireland’s greatest ever amateur, admits the scenario and even the level of opponent he has been in with has left him frustrated. He has watched on as fighters he dominated in the amateurs have all gone to record pro world success.
However, the 30-year-old adamant he will push toward titles over the next 12 months. He is hopeful of moving toward a European tilt and he believes that could open the door to world level clashes.
The Westmeath man believes he will over his injury troubles and is confident if given the right opportunities he can make a mark at the highest level.
Nevin discussed his next fight, his career goals, his frustrations and more when he sat down at Macho Gym with Kevin Byrne of The Sun.
