Croker? Amanda Serrano wants to fight Katie Taylor in IRELAND

Amanda Serrano [36(27)-1(0)-1] wants her potential fight with Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] to play out in Ireland.

The seven weight world champion has been linked with the undisputed lightweight champion of the world since before the Bray native defeated her sister Cindy in October of 2018.

There have been constant talk of a ‘mega fight’ that would help accelerate the change in the landscape of female pro fighting, but a potential meeting has continually stalled.

The Brooklyn based fighter was accused of blowing hot and cold and trying to duck the London 2012 Olympian, when it’s most likely she was trying to ensure she got well paid for the clash.

However, any confusion with regard to whether or not the pair would meet  was ended earlier this month when Lou DiBella confirmed to Irish press that Seranno has agreed a financial deal to face Taylor, if she manages to defeat fellow New Yorker Heather Hardy on September 13. Hardy has a similar contract.

Now with Taylor officially just one victory away the Puerto Rican star is speaking postively about the clash again and wants to fight ‘the queen of Ireland’ in Ireland.

“We wanted this fight with Heather, she’s an awesome fighter, undefeated, Irish(-American) and she’s a world champion,” Serrano told boxingscene.

“We beat one Irish girl, then go after the queen of Ireland—and I really want to fight Katie Taylor in Ireland. She’s never fought in her home country, she’s a superstar and deserves a fight there,” she adds before stressing defeating Taylor in her home country would only add to her legacy.

“You want your career defined by fighting the best, so let’s fight the best in her home. We can even do best two out of three, wherever she wants. The outcome is always going to be the same no matter where we fight.”

Serrano’s suggestion will be music to Irish fight fans ears, but unfortunately a Taylor  homecoming isn’t likely.

A big return has been a topic of conversation since the day Eddie Hearn came to the Dublin to announce he was teaming up with the Olympic gold medal winner.

A fight night at the 3Arena had long been promised by the Matchroom boss but was put off twice before being shelved ‘indefinitely’ – with Taylor’s manager reasoning that he was advised that the climate was “not conducive” to a card in Dublin.

Sky Sports boss Adam Smith had raised Cork as a possibility advocating a Feile style event centred around a fight for the now undisputed lightweight champion of the world.

Belfast was another option discussed, but again turned out to be another homecoming avenue that seems to have lead to nowhere.

An Irish hosted Taylor topped fight night was raised again after the lightweight returned to Ireland with the WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine title just days after defeating Delfine Persoon in Madison Square Gardenon June 1.

The Bray fighter’s manager seems to think it remains unlikely particularly with the  Ross Enamait trained fighter growing increasingly popular in America.

Speaking earlier this Summer Peters explained,

“DAZN are the TV company and they pay our wages and they want it on prime time and probably after the other night they are going to want us on prime time American time, but we are hoping to fight in New York before the end of the year,” Peters explained. 

“To generate the kind of money to pay the other champions and Katie ( American would be better), DAZN are the pay masters.”
