Roy Jones Jr fighter Coyle gets opponent upgrade for UFC fight pass card
Conor Coyle [10(3)-0] has been handed a change in opponent for his first fight 10 round fight and possibly an upgrade on what was billed as his toughest test to date.
The Roy Jones Jr fighter was set to face Texas Champion tough Texan Raphael Igbowke [12(2)-2(0)] on the top of another Las Vegas bill, but will now face a potentially more dangerous and certainly more experienced foe.
The Derry fighter will face Rafael “The Pride of San Diego” Ramon Ramirez [21(4)-4(1)-2].
Ramirez, is possibly more noted as a former sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Shane Mosely and Jose Luis Castillo, but has a solid record.
He has over double the amount of fights than the original opponent – and although at 39 he is somewhat older, he comes into the contest on the back of six wins and one no contest, all of which were recorded in Mexico.
The Florida-based Derry middleweight secured a deal with Jones Jr after headlining one of his shows back in February and topped another bill In Las Vegas in April.
Both of these RJJ cards played out on UFC Fight Pass and Coyle will return to the platform next weekend.
Coyle defeated Robert Burwell last time out and is really stepping up in 2019 following his recovery from Lyme Arthritis.
Based in St Petersburg, Florida, under former Winky Wright trainer Jim McLoughlin, Coyle is receiving a big push from Jones Jr.
Next week’s fight, which plays out at the Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine will be Coyle’s first 10 rounder and it’s a chance for him to make progress.
The undercard in August will feature Prince Smalls, Juan Jose Barajas, Santiago Dominguez, Marcos Antonio Dominguez, Roberto Meza, Ricardo Valdovinos, and Adrian Gutierrez.
